I woke up early in my epic campsite, and made my way up to a sweet viewpoint for coffee and breakfast. I must have been so excited and tired the night before, I completely missed this amazing view of Middle and South Sisters!!

I filled up my water to start the day, and headed out – back through the other side of Linton Meadows to meet back up with the Pacific Crest Trail. I was pretty excited to finally see Obsidian Falls! It was really interesting to hike along a path of obsidian, but I was a little nervous about hiking across the lava field near Collier Cone. I wasn’t sure if I was going to stop before the lava field, but I was feeling good so after passing through Sawyer Bar I took a short breather and kept on going!

There were quite a few snow patches in this area, but they were spread out far enough that I never got around to putting on my micro-spikes. It felt good when some day hikers and backpackers asked me for advice as they hiked south, I must look like I know what I’m doing!

Once I made it through the lava field (and nearly slid down a giant snow bank!), I passed through another beautiful meadow and stopped for a much needed lunch break!

Even though today was a shorter day, was feeling pretty exhausted after all the sun exposure. I was very happy to finally arrive at a swimmable lake and take a dip! Since I had my Central Cascades Permit, I decided to make camp at North Matthieus Lake. This ended up being a little bit of a mistake… it was early, and after my swim, I was confined to my tent due to the crazy mosquitoes…
