I had started doing the math at this point, and I knew I was on my way home… I enjoyed the challenge of getting more miles done each day, and each step was bringing me closer to my own backyard. I departed the meadow just north of Breitenbush, and made my way to Olollie Lake Resort. I was very excited to get there, because I knew they had a store with snacks, a bathroom, and a trashcan to unload my garbage. I was so far ahead of schedule, I knew this would be a great opportunity to unload some of my unused food items and downsize my food bag. Of course… I treated myself, I spent $10 on 3x string cheeses, a cider, and a coke! Best $10 I spent all week!

This was probably the most recent burn area I hiked through, and it was pretty devastating. I walked through miles of ash, without a green leaf to be seen. From Olollie Lake, I made my way to Warm Springs, where there was a lot more evidence of humans… in not the best way. I hope to teach my kids not to leave any trash behind (of any kind). There were a lot of lakes in this area, but I just kept walking… no swimming for me today. I was able to get fresh spring water a few times, and that was quite delicious!

Warm Springs is an Indian Reservation and there are only specific places you can camp, and I was also limited by the intermittent burn areas. Eventually (when I was about to give up), I found a perfect little spot off the main trail with my own private spring. It was a perfect place to call home for the evening.
