This is the day my knee stopped hurting, and my ankle started hurting. I really wanted to finish my section hike, so my thought process was to hike more miles and finish a few days early. I realize now, that wasn’t the best way to approach a painful ankle…

I’ve done most of this part of the hike before, but it was nice to piece it together with the Warm Springs section. The trail was well maintained and after the many miles of burns zones, the “green tunnel” was a relief! Entering Timothy Lake was a trip… this is where I do a lot of day-hiking, and one of my favorite places to take my family camping. Looking for a campsite was a bit more challenging with so many day-hikers also enjoying the lake, but I found a spot to take a swim and assess my ankle. The cold water felt great, but my ankle seemed to hurt even more after I took my shoe off. My ankle tendons swelled up and were pretty red and angry 🙈

I hobbled my way to the northern end of Timothy Lake to a great campsite, and knew I was done for the day. I rested as best I could and enjoyed not one, but two dinners! My very favorite meal on trail ended up being the Back Country Foodie recipe for sun dried tomato pesto pasta (https://backcountryfoodie.com/sun-dried-tomato-pesto-pasta-ultralight-backpacking-recipe/ ) – I highly recommend it! I kept my foot elevated all night, and willed my ankle to take me to Timberline lodge the next day…
